Curious about meeting a tall dark stranger...
Woody Allen is responsible for making me laugh and not just recently but over the course of my life his movies have done nothing but intrigue me, inspire me, entertain me and most importantly humor me. I am very curious about a man who has written over 66 publicly viewed stories, from the big screen to the small screen, Allen has proven to be an amazing writer and even actor. I feel so much about his films and recently I went to the movies by myself. Have you ever done it? Bought the ticket, waited in front for the usher to open the doors, arms filled with bag, popcorn, parking ticket, car keys, get settled in and excited for the previews. Since I was by myself I was able to think about Woody Allen and curiously probed my mind and thought about his life's work and how though not everybody loves him as a writer, actor, and director, I certainly do.
Top 5 Must see Woody Allen films according to Kat:
1) Match Point and Small Time Crooks TIE
2) Annie Hall
3) Mighty Aphrodite
4) Celebrity
5) Manhattan
*If you haven't seen any of the above mentioned movies, I highly recommend a movie night with any or all of them.
Of course you'll meet a tall dark stranger, we all with in the end!!! Woody Allen
The Woody Allen film I watched today was, You Will meet a Tall Dark Stranger, not sure quite yet if it is truly worthy of top 5 Woody Allen, but it was good, themes were for a wide age range audience and I laughed out loud and enjoyed it. I mainly identified with the character of Sally in regards to her role as an employee, friend, wife, daughter and was able to then laugh at myself, in a very healthy laugh kind of way. I would be curious to know if you walked away with something at the end of this movie? When discussing Woody Allen my friend tried to explain how Woody Allen's films take you on a road with lots of sidestreets, in the sense that he tells so many little stories in one big story and sometime it is hard to make a general plot. Even though the film is scattered, it is OK because the characters are amazing. Josh Brolin's character, was so similiar to my ex-husband and again I caught myself identifying situations from my own life in this film and was still able to continue to laugh at myself and out load in the theatre.
Woody Allen's latest movie was very prevalent with themes we are bombarded with in real life in some way all of us have seen, witnessed , behaved like his characters or facets of them. The themes of adultery, staying in unhealthy relationships, leading unhappy lives, not handling failure well, most importantly for me the way we are capable of stealing peoples' time, ideas, emotions, security, hearts, and more. Also having them stolen from us is considered when analyzing his characters. Allen is raw and real but also anxiously nervous. I appreciate Woody Allen for satisfying my curiousity by so heartily providing characters that I have been or have known and in a delicious variety of human relationships. Sometimes when we think we are the only ones, our situations may be unique but our need and desire to experience is relative and were are not alone. Woody Allen through his many films has enabled us to get to know the idea of human interpersonal relationships, and I am always curious. Most of the flaws though are usually self inflicted and can be repaired but sometimes we are unable to see what is right in front of our eyes honestly and just deal with it.
I highly recommend this film!!! I suggest watching it alone or with a diverse crowd for some great conversation after!! Will need to watch again to review if it is Top5 Woody Allen. What do you think??
You will meet a tall dark stranger-
Follows a pair of married couples, Alfie (Hopkins) and Helena (Jones), and their daughter Sally (Watts) and husband Roy (Brolin), as their passions, ambitions, and anxieties lead them into trouble and out of their minds. After Alfie leaves Helena to pursue his lost youth and a free-spirited call girl named Charmaine (Punch), Helena abandons rationality and surrenders her life to the loopy advice of a charlatan fortune teller. Unhappy in her marriage, Sally develops a crush on her handsome art gallery owner boss, Greg (Banderas), while Roy, a novelist nervously awaiting the response to his latest manuscript, becomes moonstruck over Dia (Pinto), a mystery woman who catches his gaze through a nearby window
Yours in curiousity,
Kat
